Spring has arrived and the sun is shining

We are pleased to be showing a selection of our original screenprints in May with Shirley Crowther Art, at Jointure Studios, 11 South Street, Ditchling, Sussex, BN6 8UQ. The studios will be open at weekends only from 1-23 May, from 11.00am-5.00pm. We will be showing works created with Bridget Riley, Brian Rice, Gerald Laing, Richard Walker, Martyn Brewster and Stella Maris.

(For further information concerning the open weekends, please contact www.shirleycrowtherart.com)

Artizan Editions continue to work with Bridget Riley and are currently making two new screenprints for her. These prints and the third revision of her complete prints book, published by ‘Riding House’, will be launched by Karsten Schubert at The London Original Print Fair at the Royal Academy from 29th April – 3rd May.

The new Gerald Laing screenprint entitled ‘Belshazzer’s Feast’ which the workshop recently completed with him using a total of 30 separate printings + varnish, is attracting a great deal of attention (see image below).

We Artizans have also been very busy since the New Year working with some of our published artists. We have had the great pleasure of collaborating again with Brian Rice on some more monoprints within The Pavilion Series. The series is now complete and Brian and ourselves have a total of 41 unique completed works. (for a few examples, see below)

Sally McGill has been working on a new screenprint with us which will have some empathy with ‘Mark Time’ and is titled ‘Totem’ . From the original estimate of about 8 - 9 individual colours, as the creative process unfolded, we in fact ended up with 14 colours before we were finally satisfied (see below).

More locally based, Katty McMurray is currently signing some lovely new prints which we have made with her – a fascinating series of 12 small line sketches depicting various groups of figures (for example family groups, dog walkers, sun-bathers...) these are at the ridiculously affordable price of £55 each. (see example below, contact our workshop for more details)

Sophie Coryndon, who is well-known for her beautiful flower paintings and original prints, is back in the workshop with us making some great new pieces which we are hoping to have completed for the Brighton Festival. Here are some initial pictures of the work in progress. We estimate a total of at least 20-22 colours will eventually be applied. First 6 colours. Print with 12 colours completed.

John Simpson has had a resounding success with ‘Omega’s Escape’ (one still available if you are interested), as you may have seen in the recent Alan Yentob programme on Own Art. John Simpson’s most recent venture in our screenprint medium, ‘Briar Patch’, is illustrated here.

For those who are of a ‘certain age’ who may remember Richard Bach’s book Johnathan Livingston Seagull, you might relate to Kathryn Matthews group of seagull prints. See below.
